Editorial: Progress on Little Bighorn museum, visitor center
Thursday, April 14, 2011

"Like spring breezes on the bluffs above the Little Bighorn River, ideas floated at a meeting Thursday in the battlefield museum brought hope for change.

As the National Park Service begins transferring thousands of delicate artifacts and historical documents from the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument to an NPS archival conservation facility in Arizona, leaders of key stakeholder groups came together with a sense of urgency.

“We realize there needs to be some movement,” said Crow Tribal Chairman Cedric Black Eagle, adding later: “We’ve got to get something done.”

“Somehow or other we needed to get off dead center,” said Jim Court, a member of the Custer Battlefield Preservation Committee and former battlefield superintendent, adding later: “I see us making more progress than we’ve made in the last 30 years.”"
